Thursday afternoon firefighters were kept busy by a thunderstorm that rolled through the area late in the day. York Dispatch toned both departments for a report of a structure fire on Hillside Ave. (Beach District) York Village companies were just clearing a fire alarm activation in York Harbor which was storm related. Squad 2, Engine 4, and Truck 8 responded from the fire alarm. Engine 6 signed on responding from quarters. Engine 5 (York Beach) signed off first-due with smoke showing from a 2 ½ story wood frame dwelling, he requested that the Working Fire assignment be filled out. Engine 3 (York Beach) arrived second due and forward layed a 5” supply line into the fire. Both Engine companies left the “Alpha” side of the building open for Truck 8. Village companies arrived and parked their rigs. The crews went to work, stretching lines off the Beach Engines and throwing ground ladders while the Truck 8 crew went to work getting the aerial to the roof and conducting vertical ventilation by cutting a hole in the roof. The fire was knocked down in 30 minutes with no firefighter or civilian injuries. The house is repairable and the fire is under investigation by Chief Apgar (YV C-4)
