At 12:25 York Dispatched toned for a reported fire in the attic at 15 Milbury Ln. in the Village District. Squad 1 was the first on scene to a 3 story, 40 X 100 woodframe house. The multi-million dollar building had smoke showing from the third floor and the fire had self vented in the rear. Squad 1 asked for the 2nd alarm right away because of a shortage of manpower in town. Engine 3 was the second engine on scene and laid a feeder from York St. Incoming mutual aid companies supplied more feeder line because of the long distance lay. The hydrant at the end of the driveway had a poor water supply. Engine 4 then pumped from that hydrant as well as from another hydrant further up the street and fed the scene with 2 feeders. The construction of the large, 1920’s building and 2 hour head start the fire had, made it difficult to extinguish and firefighters were ordered out of the building. A total of 3 Alarms were struck for 15 Milbury Ln. and firefighers remained on scene through the night.
