York Village Fire and York Beach Fire were dispatched to Leeward Landing Thrift Store on Rt. 1 for a possible structure fire. Dispatcher Higgins announced a report of smoke in the building. Capt. Balentine arrived on scene with nothing showing, but soon discovered a light smoke condition on the first floor. It was determined to be a problem with a furnace. The furnace was shut down and companies cleared.
We respond with both fire departments to any incident involving smoke in a building. It sometimes may seem like an overkill, but it is good to be ready with the manpower and equipment until it is determined to be a minor problem.
