Town of York Emergency Services were kept busy Wednesday afternoon conducting what we all hope never happens. The scenario was an armed gunman or gunmen roaming the halls of York High School. This was a multi-agency drill conducted in real time. York Police were requested to respond to the high school at approximately 1330hours for an armed subject in the building and shots fired. Fire and EMS crews were requested to stage and await the scene to be secure. Crews set up an MCI triage area in a safe spot remote from the school building as there were approximately 21 “victims” who participated and had various injuries from heart attacks to gun shot wounds. Fire Command requested a Level III MCI which would have brought in approximately 20 ambulances, for the drill 6 participated including: York Ambulance (3 ambulances) , South Berwick Rescue, Wells EMS, Ogunquit Fire. Fire Command also requested a second alarm structural assignment for additional personnel to assist with the MCI. All things considered the drill went quite well and many lessons were learned and reinforced by both York Police, and all Fire/EMS agencies in attendance.
