The New England states are experiencing a blizzard. York Village Fire Department as well as many other fire departments in the area called in members to staff the firehouse for “storm coverage” York C-1 Chief Balentine and a dozen members staffed the apparatus as well as several 4×4 Personally Owned Vehicles (POV’s) to respond to calls caused by the blizzard. At the time of this writing the blizzard is still going strong with high winds and blinding snow. The members answered one call before midnight for a motor vehicle roll-over. York Village Firefighters removed the single occupant from the vehicle and assisted York Ambulance with packaging the patient for transport to York Hospital. The rest of the night was spent watching fire videos including “Brothers in Battle” (A YVFD favorite!) and several seasons of Emergency!

UPDATE: As of 12/27/2010 at 1400hrs. The snow is winding down, crews had a quiet night other than going out to block Long Beach at 0300 due to the high tide and storm surge.
