York Village Fire had a busy day today, beginning with a shoreline ground search for a missing boater, York and Kittery Fire assisted the US Coast Guard. Shortly after lunch time Squad 2 responded to a Motor Vehicle Crash on Rt. 1 there were no injuries and a minor anti-freeze spill was contained. As soon as the Squad backed into quarters the companies were dispatched for a wire down with a wind-swept brush fire on Organug Rd. near the York Golf and Tennis Club, Brush 10 responded with the Squad. CMP was contacted to cut power to the area so that the fire could be extinguished. while crews were operating at this scene, the Water Rescue team was dispatched to assist surfers in trouble off Long Sands Beach, Water Rescue Lt. James Eslinger and FF Dave Lorandeau were whisked off from the brush fire in a police cruiser to the Town Dock to staff the Rescue Boat. The surfers were able to get themselves out of trouble and crisis was averted. From there Ambulance 1 was dispatched with Squad 2 to a water rescue on the south end of Long Sands Beach reported to be two swimmers with injuries from the high surf already pulled from the water, Ambulance 1 requested a re-tone for personnel for a “carry-out” over the rocks off the beach, C-1, C-2 and Brush 10 responded, companies returned to service in 20 minutes from this call. Companies returned to the firehouse and shortly thereafter a telephone alarm was recieved direct to the firehouse for an odor of smoke in the house at 3 Sparhawk Way in the Whipporwhil estates housing development, which is in the Beach district. York Beach Fire was tied up on a medical so York Village responded with Squad 2 and Engine 4 with approximately a dozen personnel.
