Well, summer is officially over and fall is here! With the changing of the seasons and the cooler temperatures, the heating season is beginning. During the heating season, we experience chimney fires numerous times throughout the winter. Every fall we take several Thursday night training sessions to re familiarize our members with Chimney fire procedures, chimney construction, building construction, apparatus placement, and chimney firefighting equipment. We utilized several members houses to go out, Ladder the roofs and look around actual chimneys, and deploy the “chimney bucket” inside and “chimney chain” to the roof. This is an operation that YVFD members are well versed in but nevertheless, we train on it every year.
