As most York Village Firefighters were home enjoying an unusually warm, sunny November morning, the tones went off for York Village Fire to respond to Carrie Lynn Lane for a report of a smoldering area in the woods. The caller reported he had found a fire in the woods and he would walk out to meet responding firefighters. On arrival Lt. Hilton met the gentleman and was led approximately 5-600 feet into the woods where they found an area of approximately 1 acre that had burned. Most of the fire was already extinguished, no doubt from the rain we had early this morning. There were still several hot spots that had burned down into the ground at least 1-2 feet in places. Crews trekked into the woods with indian tanks and hand tools prepared to hit the remaining hot spots. Once on the fire line crews realized that they would need more water and personnel. A first alarm was struck for additional help, crews ran 1000′ of 1 1/2″ forestry hose into the fire scene to extinguish the fire. Crews were in the woods for approximately 2 hours.
