On Thursday night, June 30th, members from York Village Fire, York Ambulance and York Police practiced blocking procedures for traffic related incidents. The Maine State Police and other local agencies have teamed up to create a uniform traffic incident safety policy for all incidents on Interstate 95. Local agancies (York Village Fire, York Beach Fire, York Ambulance and York PD) are also going to utilize these new procedures for incidents on all in-town roads. Over the next few weeks, crews will be practicing blocking procedures so that we are all on the same page. This is a common practice in communities throughout the United States and has only recently been adopted as a set procedure in the immediate area. Blocking provides a safe work space for emergency crews working at an incident. The fire apparatus will block a lane of travel to secure a work space and protect the ambulance, that will park down flow from the accident. Law Enforcement will provide advanced warning behind the fire apparatus, diverting traffic flow around the incident.
