Today, York Village Firefighters played host to approximately 120 second graders from Coastal Ridge Elementary School. The students got to see the fire apparatus up close and the standard fire prevention week tips were passed on such as: stop, drop, and roll, calling 911, crawling low in the smoke, and not playing with matches and lighters among other things. Permanent Firefighter Jon Gay and acting Deputy Chief Eric Humphrey took turns hitting the speaking points, while FF’s Matt Gunn and Nicole Richard took turns donning their firefighting ensemble to show the students what a fully dressed firefighter looks like.
