This morning York Village Fire was dispatched to respond to 28 New Boston Rd. at the Kittery Water treatment plant for a hazardous materials incident. Upon arrival crews found that workers had inadvertently mixed two chemicals from the water treatment process. Assistance was requested from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Fire department haz-mat team, and the York County Emergency Management Agency haz-mat team. The mixture was pumped outside into large containers to be removed and treated off site. There was never any danger to the public, and the water treatment plant is back online.
