Tonight we had some lousy weather and a nor’easter was dumping rain and wind all over the northeast. We took advantage of the inclement weather by staying inside and getting some of our required annual training done, with a twist. Members got to see the Scott Pak tracker in use. It is a device that can help locate trapped firefighters in a fire. We also used the RIT pack. (Rapid Intervention Team) is like a special air supply just for firefighters that are trapped, or out of air. This is a piece of equipment we have yet to use for real and hope we never do. It was stressed to the younger firefighters that they should be intimately familiar with ALL of this equipment. It may save you or a fellow firefighter. Firefighters drilled in “harness conversion” which is how to turn the SCBA back pack into a harness to rescue a downed firefighter. We learned a lot, and refreshed old skills that we hadn’t used in quite some time. It was very productive training.
