York Village Fire station fielded a telephone call from a concerned property owner this afternoon. The caller reported that he had a family of ducklings in a swampy area on his property and it was drying out. He went on to explain that a raccoon had been seen lurking around and he was concerned for the safety of the duckling family. He asked if there was any way the fire department could pump some water into the swampy area to keep the water levels up so the ducklings could be safe from attack from the raccoon. Several York Village Firefighters utilized Tank 4 and pumped one tank-full of water into the swamp (2500 gallons) bringing the levels up considerably and ensuring the safety of the family of 7 baby ducklings.
This is an unusual situation for York Village Fire and not something we face everyday, but in keeping with our mission to provide excellent customer service to the residents and guests of our town, we feel that it was time and resources well spent!!
