Thursday night training this week consisted of back to the basics training. We have an acquired structure to use for the months of March and April. We are committed to making the best use of this building. We focused on stretching and advancing hoselines from the apparatus, getting them flaked out, charged and advanced into the structure. We added smoke and simulated fire for added realism, the conditions inside the structure were at zero visibility just like in a real fire. Crews were also deployed to search for a mannequin that was hidden inside and move the 165 pound dummy, which reinforced the need for a systematic search of the whole house to locate the “victim” in zero visibility and absolute pitch black conditions. We had a firefighter “MAYDAY” situation during one of the evolutions which necessitated the deployment of the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) to locate, package, secure a positive air supply, and remove the injured firefighter from the house, this was part of the drill and the firefighter wasn’t really in any danger during the “MAYDAY”
