This weeks training was on forward and reverse hose lays and aerial operations. A forward lay is when the fire engine stops at the hydrant first and proceeds to lay hose towards the fire, the reverse lay is where the fire engine stops at the fire first and then proceeds to lay hose to the fire hydrant ultimately ending up parked near the fire hydrant. Each method has its application, our fire apparatus chauffeurs are adept at either one when the scenario calls for it. In another scenario Truck 8 had its aerial set to the roof at the York High School and crews were training with getting a hose line up over the aerial and also using a utility rope to hoist a charged hose line up over the side of the building.
