tonight’s weekly training involved rescue from heights, namely rooftops. Firefighters had two rescue skills stations: 1. of them was rescue of the victim in a stokes basket over Truck 8’s aerial ladder, different techniques were discussed for how to conduct this operation with safety in mind. Skill station #2 involved the use of a 24′ ground ladder to make a “ladder gin” The stokes basket with rescue victim (a rescue “dummy”) was tied off to the ground ladder and then lowered with ropes and teamwork between firefighters on the roof and firefighters on the ground to lower the victim to the ground. Our volunteers learned some new techniques and we had a fun time doing it.
