On Friday afternoon Truck 8 went through the annual Nondestructive Test. Every year fire apparatus equipped with an aerial ladder, elevating platform, or water tower and their associated systems, must be inspected and tested in accordance with NFPA 1911, Standard for the Inspection, Maintenance, Testing, and Retirement of In-Service Automotive Fire Apparatus. Failure to inspect an aerial device annualy can, over time, result in cracks and seperations in welds, extensive corrosion and rust in or on structural members, and annealed aluminum as well as many other defects that could be overlooked. Truck 8 went through the test and passed with flying colors.
