Tonight both fire departments, York Police Dept. and Kittery Water District were invited to the Chases Pond Rd. Water treatment plant to “show and tell” our ATV’s and wildland firefighting equipment. York Water District has a vested interest in protecting the local forest lands. As York Water District and Kittery Water District together, own approximately 4300 acres adjacent to several local bodies of water in York, which supply drinking water and fire protection to the towns of York and Kittery. Cooperation is especially important between these four agencies and the working relationship is based on mutual respect from all parties.
The York Water District in cooperation with York Village and York Beach Fire Departments recently recieved a grant to purchase a small “skid unit” portable firefighting unit to fit in the back of their John Deere Gator to combat small fires in the YWD and KWD land as this forest lands are regularly patrolled by the Water District personnel.
