Shortly after midnight, York Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a chimney fire at 6 Key Way. Companies were enroute shortly and received updated information from the homeowner that it looked like the fire was spreading to the house. YB Assistant Chief Jeff Welch (212) was in the area and had the companies’ stage because they couldn’t locate the address. Finally Chief Welch arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the eaves of the dwelling. Chief Welch subsequently requested a 1st alarm working fire bringing York Village Fire to the scene. Companies had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 20 minutes and Companies were held on scene for nearly 2 hours for overhaul. The fire did extend from the chimney to the roof of the structure; crews cut a sizeable hole in the roof to be sure they had stopped the fire’s progress.
