A York Village Firefighter completes York Fire Department’s arduous driver training program when  The objectives to become “checked off” on Engine 6 are finished. Engine 6 is the first piece of apparatus that new Chauffeurs start on when they are cleared by the chief officers to begin driver training.  The York Fire Department’s rigorous program was largely refined by Firefighter Nick Hilton. The objectives that must be met include 100 road miles on each piece of apparatus, numerous pumping evolutions such as forward and reverse hose lays,  acting as the attack engine, supply engine and supplying an aerial device.  We also ensure that our operators are first rate at obtaining water in the rural water setting which means drafting from a porta-tank, static sources and “dry-hydrants”
