Mid afternoon today, York Village Fire was dispatched to a call for black smoke coming from the chimney at 25 York St. This was called in by a York Police officer. Companies arrived on scene with smoke coming from the chimney as it normally would. Once inside, the crews investigated and found an active chimney fire in one of the multiple flues
in the center chimney. Captain Paul Balentine (K-4) and FF Luke Starkey quickly discharged a dry chemical fire extinguisher up the flue knocking down the fire. Truck 8 Lt. Nick Hilton (W-3) laddered the building and the roof crew dropped the chain with a weight on it to break through the creosote blocked chimney.
