Today the students from the North Berwick Fire regional firefighter I and II program gathered in York Village to learn about hose, nozzles, fire streams, and firefighting foam. This is another module in the class which runs from November 29 until the first week of June. York Village has two students in the class which is approximately 240 hours from start to finish and is required for recruit firefighters to be certified as firefighters and function as a firefighter on a fireground. All the students in the class are call/volunteer firefighters and are participating in the class hoping to earn their certification. Al, the students are balancing full time careers which they continue to work by day to put food on the table. By night they’re in the classroom learning from instructors who are experienced firefighters. Several York Village firefighters were on hand to assist the students as instructors for this portion of their class.
