The dry winter has made for dangerous fire conditions in town. Today, the York Fire Department was dispatched to a Newtown Rd. residence for a reported brush fire. Lt. Hilton was the first arriving fire officer and took command of the incident. He reported a large area burning and a request for Tank 4 to respond. Squad 2 and more manpower arrived shortly after and the exposures were protected and the fire eventually knocked down with Squad 2’s belly water. Tank 4, Engine 4 and Brush 10 also responded to assist with the mop up. A total of 3/4 of an acre burned and the cause is believed to be discarded woodstove ashes.
