The York Fire Department is always available to provide the children of York with fire prevention and awareness classes. Members routinely conduct classes off site at local day cares, nursery schools, Montessori schools, elementary schools and other children’s events. The members will bring a truck, educate the children about basic fire safety, show the children the equipment, demonstrate how a firefighter looks like in full firefighting protective clothing to include the breathing apparatus. Usually at the end of the demonstration, the children will be allowed to squirt water from a real fire hose, with a firefighter’s supervision of course.
Station tours are also available for schools, scouts and day-cares. Station tours consist of the same basic demonstrations and education as an off-site fire prevention and awareness class. The children will also receive a tour of the station.
Please remember, the members of the York Fire Department are volunteer and an appointment for such a class would need to be scheduled ahead of time. Please contact us at 207-363-1015 to schedule.
