Well, another great Firemen’s field day is in the books. This year was our 97th Annual, and we are looking forward to our 100th in 2016. Sadly enough though a dear friend was not there to enjoy the day with us. FF Burleigh Bridges (ret.) of the Wells, Maine Fire Department passed away in July. He would never have missed a firemen’s field day otherwise. The parade started at 1200hours sharp from Woodbridge and York streets and followed the usual route through the harbor then into the village terminating at the library. At the field a short ceremony was held in memory of Burleigh with various current and retired firefighters making short remarks. Then the muster began soon after the parade completion. This year we did a little something different with the muster. Instead of the ladder event we have renamed the event: “The Burleigh Bridges Memorial Ladder Event” it seemed fitting seeing as he was nearly unbeatable in this event owing to his lanky build.
After moving our muster around to various locations in York, we’ve settled at Moulton Park in York Harbor for the last 8 years and it seems to be a popular spot as we seem to draw a substantial crowd there. The officers and members of York Village Fire Department wish to send out a huge Thank You to all of our friends, Brother and Sister firefighters, The Red Shirts and Locals who support us.
Thank You to Shawn, AJ and Rose St. Hilaire for the use of their photographs.
