In the late afternoon hours York Village and York Beach Fire Departments were dispatched to 451 US Route 1 the Meat House store for a propane explosion in the building reported to be 3+ injuries on scene. York Village Firefighters had just completed some work around the firehouse, therefore; Squad 2, Engines 4, 6, and Truck 8 were on the air in rapid fashion and on-scene within 4 minutes. On arrival at the scene Companies found an explosion had occured within the store fusing one sprinkler head, There didn’t appear to have been a large volume of fire and it was immediately extinguished by the activated sprinkler head. Crews tended to the injured employees and mutual aid ambulances were requested, in all 3 patients were transported to York Hospital. Deputy Chief Apgar ( C-4) began his investigation immediately after it was determined that the fire was out and there was negative extension, The State Fire Marshal’s office was summoned to the scene to assist Chief Apgar with his investigative efforts and the investigation remains ongoing as of the time of this article. Companies remained on scene for several hours to stand-by.
