Tonight we conducted our Confined Space Rescue course refresher. The confined space rescue team is a joint effort between the York Village, York Beach Fire Departments, York Water, and York Sewer districts. A confined space is a small space which isn’t intended for humans to continuously occupy. York Water and Sewer districts have a few places that are listed as confined spaces by OSHA. We have to be trained to rescue somebody in case of an emergency in one of the confined spaces that exist on their properties. We have to have initial training and then annual refreshers to maintain our individual spots on the team. Members were lowered into the hole and practiced packaging a victim for removal from the hole with a special stretcher.
