This year on the third Saturday in August instead of our usual feel they event we hosted an open house at the firehouse. The weekend got it start as it usually does on Thursday during the day when the trucks were all pulled out of the station, washed and detailed. The customary truck waxing was not done as we were not going to have the rigs in the parade. The parade will he held on September 10 with the MSFFF state convention being held in York Village. Thursday night after the trucks were all cleaned up the station was tidied up in preparation for the open house festivities.
Friday day was filled with tying up loose ends around the firehouse as is the usual Friday before field day ritual. Friday night was a very special night for the York Village Fire Dept. The entire department were invited to “The Reading Room” in York Harbor, a very upscale social club. We were guests of “The Red Shirts” a fraternal organization that was founded in 1929 to provide support to the York Village Fire Department. Many new friendships were made and old ones were cemented.
Early Saturday morning York Village firefighters were arriving at the firehouse for the open house being held in lieu of the standard firemen’s field day. It was the first time in almost 75 years that the traditional firemen’s field day wasn’t going to be held on the third Saturday in August. The turnout was great for the day, with children’s games, static displays, a dunk tank, and food. The members had a great time as did the public who came to see what were all about. The Red Shirt’s 1853 Button hand tub was also on display!! Check out a few of the shots that we took that day!! Additionally, check out the link to www.seacoastonline.com!!!
