Every year during the last week in the school year the York Fire Department heads down to the Coastal Ridge Elementary School to help the 4th grade student’s show their stuff. The 4th grade students in small groups put together a contraption that they hope will protect an egg from a 2 story drop. This year Deputy Chief Dave Apgar, and firefighters Zach Apgar, Steve Martin, Amanda Bruno, and Josh Gammon headed down to the school to lend a helping hand (and height). Using Truck 8’s ladder we provided the height needed for the 2 story drop. The York Fire Department takes pride in being able to assist the young students with their project. Both Firefighter Apgar and Gammon participated in this same project when they were in the 4th grade years

ago. This year proved

to be a lot fun for everyone. The students made contraptions that consisted from anything from a stuffed animal to a shoe box, and like any other year, some eggs made it safely and others, well let’s just say wasn’t the 2 story drop that got them, it was the sudden stop at the end! We would like to thank the 4th grade teachers and the students of Coastal Ridge for inviting us down again this year for a morning full of excitement.
