At around 1:30 Friday afternoon York Dispatch sent the York Village Fire Dept. to the area of Rt. 103 near the Kittery line for a report of a possible brush fire with a large amount of smoke in the area.  First arriving units determined the fire was in a heavily wooded area of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.  Members re-positioned to Raynes Neck Rd. to look for a way into the fire.  A trail was taken by members on foot right to the fire.  An estimated area of 5 to 7 acres was actively burning and spreading fast in multiple directions.

Mutual Aid came in from York Beach Fire, Kittery Fire, Eliot Fire and Ogunquit Fire.  Berwick Fire covered the York Village Fire Station.

Portable pumps, hand tools and ATVs needed to be used.  Luckily there were two water sources directly in the middle of the fire.
