Shortly after 0930 hours York Village and York Beach were dispatched to the 3 Buoys restaurant at 2 US Route 1 for a propane tank explosion. Captain Paul Balentine (K-4) was on scene in 2 minutes and found a large underground propane tank actively leaking from the fill tower after being struck by a vehicle. Squad 2 and Engine 4 were on scene minutes later and a water supply was quickly established from a nearby hydrant and a portable Blitzfire monitor was placed in service for vapor suppression. Truck 8 and Engine 6 also responded. Chief Balentine (C-1) was in command and nearly 20 York Village Fire personnel responded to the scene. Engine 1 from York Beach responded with 1 member. Rymes propane was contacted to respond to the scene with a technician. Companies operated at the scene until approximately 1500hours. There were no injuries to either firefighters or civilians and the business was re-opened later the same day.
