Shortly before 1130 am York Village Fire and York Ambulance were dispatched to I-95 southbound for a motor vehicle accident. Just as the ambulance and Squad 2 were hitting the street we were updated that it was multiple vehicles, with entrapment and one of the cars was rolled over. A second update reported one patient not breathing and possibly in cardiac arrest. On arrival we had one vehicle in the high speed lane (lane 1) and one vehicle rolled on its side in the grass on the right shoulder of the road. There was one patient with minor injuries trapped in this vehicle. York Ambulance had a patient from the other vehicle already packaged to transport and didn’t require additional resources there. We focused our efforts on the entrapped patient. Capt. Butler took charge of the extrication group and their crew first stabilized the vehicle with the Paratech struts and then went to work with the jaws of life and the sawzall. A & B posts were cut with the jaws tool cutter and the roof was cut down with the sawzall. The victim was removed and transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital by American Ambulance from Kittery. Squad 2, Engine 4, and Brush 10 responded with 10 personnel. York Beach covered our district while we were tied up.
