Today we kicked off the driver training program for the year. We have a couple of members who are beginning training to be a fire apparatus chauffeur. Being a qualified chauffeur is a serious responsibility. The members chosen for this role have to not only drive and handle a large, heavy piece of fire apparatus on the road but they also have to be able to operate it once they arrive at the scene of the fire or other emergency. These pieces of equipment are very complicated pieces of equipment and there is a lot of skill that goes into knowing how to drive and operate them. As the spring progresses there will be a lot more training going on!! Today we kicked off with Engine 4 on the hydrant feeding Truck 8’s aerial ladder pipe. At the height of this drill we were flowing approximately 1,300 gallons per minute!!
