York Village and York Beach Fire Dept’s were sent out for the third “smoke in the building” call this week. Under the response guidelines any smoke in the building with an unknown origin is a dual response for both departments and falls under the guidelines of a building fire. Tuesday brought two back to back “smoke in the building” calls which would prove to be nothing except a furnace problem and an improperly drafting fire place. Neither incident would require anything more than assistance in ventilation. At approximately 11 am, Saturday, York Dispatch put out the assignment for the Village, Beach and York Ambulance to respond to Long Sands Road for the smoke in the building. Chief Balentine (C-1) was quick to arrive and find light smoke in the building. It wasn’t long before Chief Balentine, Capt. Apgar, and Lt. Bruno located the source, a burnt up motor on the back of the refrigerator. Command (Chief Balentine) Held all units to ventilate and check for extension. Squad 2, Engine 1, Truck 8, C-2 and Ambulance 1 would round out the assignment.
