If you were driving through York Village this morning you may have noticed that there was a lot of activity centered around the monument. York Village Fire Department, with a crew from Parks and Recreation, York DPW, the grounds crew from the First Parish Cemetery, several history buffs, members of the media, and the town manager, Steve Burns were all on hand to assist with pressure washing the monument and cleaning the 112 years of grime off it. It may likely be the first time the monument itself has had any attention paid to it other than the annual placing of the Santa hat on it at Christmas time. Crews utilized Truck 8’s aerial to access the upper portions of the soldier for cleaning. It was also a great opportunity for a selfie or two and for the history buffs to get some up close shots of details of the uniform. It was a worthwhile project and we were proud to be a part of it. Here are a couple of shots that we took while assisting the crews.
