Today, members traveled to Portland for the funeral service for Berwick, Me fire captain Joel Barnes. Capt. Barnes was killed in the line of duty in a structure fire in Berwick on March 1. He laid on top of his firefighter in the fire thus saving his brother firefighter. It has been an emotional couple of weeks as this incident was very close to home and highlights the dangers that we all face regularly. The fire service is a very small world and to lose one of our own very close by was heart wrenching. Many of us had close personal friends that worked the incident and our hearts go out to them. We hope that they can find the strength to continue to put their boots on and answer the call. Rest In Peace Capt. Barnes.
